Black Lives Matter was founded in 2013 after hearing the verdict for Trayvon Martins death. The movement was founded by three radical Black women, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. The movement is a global organization whose main goal is to “Eradicate White Supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on the Black Communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering act of violence, creating space, imagination and innovation, and centering Black Joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives”.
